Seeking inspiration for her next collection as Creative Director for sass & bide, Therese Rawsthorne flew to Europe, stopping over at fashion capitals Paris and London. From the vivid textiles on display at Premiere Vision Paris Textile Fair to a stroll through Portobello Road Markets – where H and SJ started selling jeans back in 1999 – follow Therese through her trip.
ART AND ARCHITECTURE from the wide boulevards and open avenues to museums and galleries filled with rich history, Paris is an endless source of inspiration. On the way to the elegant and theatrical La Mode Retrouvée exhibition, Therese found herself immersed in the Beaux-Arts architectural style of the neo-renaissance palace, Palais Galleria.
PREMIERE VISION PARIS TEXTILE FAIR amongst the visual feast of clashing colours and fancy fringing, Therese spotted this artwork from artist Malvina Sauvage, produced in collaboration with one of our suppliers, Malhia Kent.
AI WEIWEI AT BON MARCHE hung from the ceiling of iconic department store, Le Bon Marche Rive Gauche, Therese admired the intricate instillations, hand-crafted from bamboo and paper by iconic artist Ai Weiwei. The multi-layered scene of mythological creatures – a hybrid turtle-fish, a serpent spirit with a human head and a rooster-fish sparked imagination.
FLEA MARKETS rummaging through treasures and curiosities at the aux Marché Puces de St Oue, the largest Paris market, was a highlight of Therese’s trip. She ended the day with a drink at the Chez Louisette, a character-filled bistro at the back corner of the market, where a chanteuse accompanied by an accordion player and pianist set the vibrant atmosphere.
